UPCOMING COMMUNITY MEETING, WE NEED YOUR SUPPORT!!!

There will be a meeting at Sage Collegiate on Wed Nov 15th at both 2pm and 6pm. We are asking all neighbors to attend. This is our first formal opportunity to address the school with our concerns and ask questions from the school director and the builders. Please join us, we need your help!

From Doorsteps to Screens: Director Sandra Kinne’s Pledge to Inform Neighborhood Falls Short

Wooden doll with a long nose representing a liar

Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

How do you know when a school director is lying? Her lips are moving, or in this case, her fingers are typing. I declare this the last time I am deceived by her words.

As part of her “commitment” to work with the neighborhood surrounding her school, Sandra Kinne vowed to host community hours, going so far as to email Councilman Brian Knudsen the following:

“As a follow up to yesterday’s public hearing, I wanted to let you know we will host two office hours specifically for community members. They are:Wednesday, November 15 from 2-3 p.m. and 6 to 7 p.m. Maria Gomez from RedHook will join me virtually. I will post to social media and have fliers dropped a la door-to-door campaigning.”

That email to our councilman was sent on October 19, however I was informed of this meeting on Wednesday, October 25, after adamantly pressing Ms. Kinne for a time to sit down and talk to her about the problems in the neighborhood stemming from her school. A fellow neighbor was informed by Kinne on November 8th. To the best of my knowledge, we are the only two people in our neighborhood who have been directly informed of this so-called “community meeting”.

We have reached out to both Ms. Kinne and Red Hook, the builders for the proposed expansion, and neither are willing to follow through with their commitment to reaching out to neighbors. We were informed that social media posts have been made, so they did their part in notifying the public. I’m guessing my fellow neighbors also do not follow Sage Collegiate on Facebook, nor Instagram.

As such, my neighbor and I are taking it upon ourselves to go door to door and inform the neighborhood of this critical meeting. We are asking you to please help us spread the word and bring as many fellow neighbors as you can to join us at the meetings on Wednesday, November 15th. There are two meetings, one at 2 pm, the other at 6 pm. I will be attending both. If you have any questions about the meeting, or if I can help you in any way, please reach out to me at akorringa@yahoo.com.

Thank you for your support, and I hope to see you there!

UPDATE: 11/13/23 11:00 AM

Well, ladies and gentlemen, color me surprised! It seems Sage decided to grace the neighborhood with their presence and make an effort to inform the community about the upcoming meeting. Let’s not get too carried away with the term “effort” though. If you call casually tossing a few flyers at handpicked houses for a mere 10 minutes an exertion, then sure, they’re putting in the work. I had the pleasure of observing two representatives during this groundbreaking campaign – from the moment they graced my doorstep with a flyer to their swift retreat back to the school, all wrapped up in a grand total of 10 minutes. But really, did any of us expect anything more? Probably not.
