A cursory look at Sage’s website portrays a school dedicated to fostering academic excellence and guiding students towards success. The emphasis on literacy and the pursuit of a 100% literacy rate among 3rd graders stands out as a noble ambition. Regrettably, the reality painted by their test scores is quite the opposite.
As Nevadans, we are all too aware of our state’s dismal education rankings nationwide. Charter schools emerged as an alternative to public schools, presenting more choices—a generally positive development. Nevertheless, the performance of Sage Collegiate falls well below the already low statewide averages. Subpar scores in English Language Arts and Mathematics indicate an urgent need for improvement. Undoubtedly, the task of educating students is challenging, and having competent instructors could make a significant difference. However, most of the teachers at Sage hold only substitute teacher’s licenses, which typically necessitate no more than an Associate’s Degree. If Sage Collegiate truly prioritizes education, they should begin by recruiting qualified educators.
